HEAVEN ON EARTH

What is “environment”? Where did it come from? In a sentence, Environment
is the natural life on earth. We humans aren’t aware of its origin but we like
to believe that it’s a gift of god appreciated by all of us. When we think of the
term “environment”, we consider it to be full of trees, mountains, air, water,
land, sunlight and every part of nature. But, in the 20th century, what we get

to see around us is a number of tall buildings, slums, sewers, potholes and
               several car honks.

Back then, the air felt so fresh and now, it’s smoke that we inhale ; the rivers
were like clean glass through which we could see fishes underwater and now,
it’s garbage that we see ; children had fields to run with tiers on and now,
children sit before their computers all day

In today’s age, we learn about saving the environment from being polluted
and wiped out by technological and infrastructural development, we take a
stand for conserving the environment but, how do we (as protectors)
               contribute to the environment?

                                             “Save Trees, Trees Save”

                                            “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”
                                                     “Go green”

The aforesaid are slogans that are said loudly, heard clearly, seen popularly
but felt uncertainly. A phrase with no feeling has no meaning. Where were

we (as protectors) when the forests were burnt? Where were we when the
trees were eradicated? Where were we when lakes were turned into gutters?
Where were we then? Where are we now?

At least 25 trees are cut per day, Delhi (India) is at the 10th rank of highest
air contaminated provinces in the world, Even after consistent warnings noise
pollution is practiced, hundreds of children die of thirst, and nature, that

gives you shelter, food, water and clothes (basic necessities), is not reacting
now but all of us are familiar with the fact that it will strike back someday...!

Isn’t that what we’re preparing the younger generation for? The outcome?
Here is the least we can do as people, not change the world but instead,
change our own opinions and the thoughts of our children as they grow.
What will happen if we give our children pots in their hands to grow plants

in? What will happen if we encourage them to believe that they can do
something extraordinary? It’s one opinion, one thought and one belief that is
in your hands. And the day all the decks are cleared, will be the day of making
               heaven... heaven on earth...!

                                                                                    - Mukesh Sharma
