unconditional love, that centuries ago Jesus taught to human beings. He
spoke of Ahimsa that perhaps Buddha and Mahavir taught thousands of
years ago. His ideology doesn’t look at the colour of skin. That’s the reason
Martin Luthor King in USA and Dr. Nelson Mandela in South Africa could
use his methods to fight injustice. His recipe was for that everyone who
believed in humanity and had faith in truth. He taught to fight injustice and
oppression but not oppressor, not a human being.
We all have stereotypes. Even he had. But he was brave enough to break
them. They never hindered his way in accepting new concepts, ideas or
people. Though initially was not willing for women’s entry, in later part of his
political career he allowed Indian women to participate actively in politics.
He was brave to protest against the injustice be it of any side. The same
modest Gandhiji condemn the British Parliament with sharp words for her
insensitive attitude towards Indian independence. He similarly ably
answered the biased opinions of racist Western writers who condemned
India for no reason and advocated the British rule. He made his presence to
round table conference in the attire of an Indian peasant though he knew
western standards of dress code well very. Perhaps the same bravery made its
way when this seventy-five years old young, brave man went to ‘Noakhali’ to
fight communal hatred and violence, to heal the wounded souls.
There are many questions about him. There are still controversies about his
decisions, roles and ideology. But it’s a sign that we accepted him as a human
and we haven’t deified him. Deification may finish his legacy, it may not
allow us to try and scrutinise his methods. Science believes in experiments,
let’s take his methods and ideology in a scientific manner, where we don’t
trust blindly but we accept it with open eyes and mind.
