Gandhi Jayanti
Celebration
On 2 October 2019, Reliance Foundation School, Koparkhairane, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti
with enthusiasm and fervour to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the father of
our nation- Mahatama Gandhi. On the occasion, the students and staff gathered for a special
assembly in the morning, presented by the students of classes 5 and 6. The assembly on the
theme of ‘Remembering Bapu’ began by sharing Gandhiji’s powerful thought “Action for
one’s own self binds, action for the sake of others delivers from bondage”. It was followed by
the daily prayer and a speech remembering the contributions of the “Mahatma”. The staff
and students then paid homage to Gandhiji. Another speech glorifying the values and virtues
of Mahatma Gandhi, was delivered by a student of class 6.
A riveting speech in Hindi was put forth by another student of class 6 highlighting the
importance of Cleanliness or Swachata that was one of the major concerns for Gandhiji and
is the need of the hour today. Next a skit carrying the powerful message of “Say no to Plastic”
was presented by the students of classes 2 to 6. The students were completely enthralled and
motivated by this performance. Following it, Bapuji’s favourite bhajan “Raghupati Raghav”
was performed melodiously by the music choir. After this soulful rendition, Head of
Admin. Mr. Radhakrishnan Mattiyil was invited to share his thoughts. He enlightened the

assembly by sharing his thoughts and emphasised on the values and principles laid by
Mahatma Gandhi and appealed that all should follow the same as these principles and
virtues still have relevance and are necessary in the present times. He rightly quoted
Gandhiji and said that the path of peace and non-violence is the only way the world can
survive. After this, the Swachata Pledge was taken and the assembly concluded with the
National Anthem.
After the assembly, the students were divided into various groups for the rally and cleanliness
drive. These groups were accompanied by the teaching and non-teaching staff and they
cleaned the school campus; pavements and footpaths of the neighbourhood. The students
were thrilled and excited and carried various placards displaying the messages about
cleanliness and ways to keep the surroundings clean. The skit “Say No to Plastic” was also
performed in the adjacent housing society, Beverly Park. The day concluded by the students
wherein they shared their experiences and promised to practise same cleanliness in their
daily life and spread the same message with everyone.
